HESKEY
BIOGRAPHY:
Act who were formed in 1998 by ex-Blue
Jays Stuart Blackwood (vocals / guitar) & Robbie Lesuik (bass), along
with Andrew Baker (keyboards, ex-Borderline),
David Murphy (guitar / vocals) & Don Watson (drums). Watson was soon replaced
by Andy Denolm (drums, ex-Jellytone)
and the band began recording their debut album on Arran in the summer. Baker
and Lesuik left previous to this, with Lesuik forming Pistolstar.
Niall Anderson (bass, ex-Jellytone)
joined at this point, allowing the band to play live to promote their self-titled
album. In 2001 Blackwood appeared onstage playing guitar beside his hero, Neil
Finn, at the Armadillo, Glasgow. Heskey appeared at Big In Falkirk in Callander
Park in 2002, supporting Snow Patrol, The Cosmic Rough Riders & Bob Geldof.
In 2003 Blackwood also formed Soundcradle
(with ex-Heskey drummer Don Watson) as an outlet for his own songs. The four
piece played since then until 2006, though with less frequency, until eventually
Blackwood left to concentrate on Soundcradle, with the other three members forming
Retro Gnome.
